MELISSA FABBI, Mezzo-Soprano 

Melissa has loved music since she was very young. She finds that the more she performs, the more her love grows! Over the years, performing Messiah has become her favorite Christmas season tradition. She has performed it almost every year since the tenth grade! Melissa enjoys all types of vocal performance, and has performed in several musicals and the operetta H.M.S. Pinafore. This past spring she performed her first solo recital entitled "So Pretty" at the University of Utah School of Music. She also participates in a community choir, the Salt Lake Choral Artists, conducted by Dr. Brady Allred, who recently opened the Christmas Concert Series at the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Melissa graduated with her Bachelor of Music Degree in Choral Music Education from the University of Utah. She plans to return to teach elementary music or choir in her hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.


SHEILA PAGE, Soprano

A native of Salt Lake City, Sheila graduated from BYU with a bachelors of Music. While at BYU she performed with the Young Ambassadors as a principal dancer. After serving a Mission in Seville, Spain, she returned to sing in the opera department as a Knabe in The Magic Flute, and as Carolina in The Secret Marriage. After graduating and moving to California she taught voice and music privately for 15 years. While in the Bay Area she studied voice with Dave Stroud, and worked as the vocal director for Peninsula Youth Theatre, and for many community plays in the area. Sheila loves working with children, and is currently on Staff at Life Arts Center in Cottonwood Heights as the music teacher for children ages 2-12. Sheila is the wife of Dr. Michael Page and the mother of 4 children.  

CHANTEL ALLEN NATE, Soprano

Chantel Nate (Brian’s daughter) started singing professionally when she was 10 years old. She typically would perform one or two songs as part of her dad's production. At 12, she began her professional training with various vocal coaches. Chantel has performed as a soloist at a number of church and community functions. Chantel is currently a vocal performance and music history major at the University of Utah. While at the "U" she has been involved in a number of school recitals and productions. She recently played the role of Willy in the 2005 production of Street Scene and was the director and the Fairy Godmother in the student produced performances of The True Story of Cinderella. During the summer of 2005, Chantel had the opportunity to tour with La Musica Lyrica and performed in operas throughout the Tuscany region of Italy. Chantel is a coloratura soprano and is currently studying with Shawna Gottfredson.

Brian Allen has been singing and entertaining audiences for over 15 years. He began his career as a soloist in local churches and studio recitals and is also currently studying with Shawna Gottfredson. Brian has been a featured soloist at various special events and programs. He has sung the national anthem at Utah Jazz games, University of Utah Gymnastics meets, Salt Lake Stingers baseball games and Utah Grizzlies hockey games. He has appeared in numerous community theatre productions, was a member of the Utah Opera Chorus for seven years and has performed light opera with the University of Utah.

Brian and Chantel opened the 2004 Sandy, Utah performance of the Fabulous Four and they have sung together for dinner shows and conventions as far away as Philadelphia. They also were members of the back up chorus for the Salt Lake City performances of Michael Ball's US Tour in 2004.

 

 

TAYLOR ANDERSON, Baritone

Taylor Anderson has sung with the Mormon Youth Chorus and BYU Men’s Chorus, and performed in musicals throughout Davis and Salt Lake Counties, including A Day, Night, and a Day (written by Doug Stewart, author of Saturday's Warrior) at Vine Street Theater; The Sound of Music, Scrooge, and Shenandoah at Pages Lane Theater; and 1940’s Radio Hour at Bountiful Community Theater.  In addition to recording vocal solos on two professional albums (A Day, A Night, and a Day (1991) and EFY: Return with Honor (1995)), Taylor recently recorded a solo album titled One Little Miracle, which contains over an hour of Christian-based, inspirational music, including 12 original compositions and songs by Kenneth Cope and Michael McLean.

 

Taylor is married and has four beautiful children who wonder why “Daddy sings so much.”  He is a corporate attorney practicing in Salt Lake City.

 

 

 

DON WALKER, Tenor

Don Walker has been a resident of Cottonwood Heights since 1997. This is his 3rd appearance as a soloist in the Cottonwood Heights Messiah production. Don is an attorney, and has a B.A. in Vocal Performance from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado. Don has sung all types of music over the years, and considers himself the last "old folksinger". He plays the guitar, tuba, and baritone, and is occasionally the tuba player and backup conductor for the 96th Infantry Auxiliary Band, a volunteer Army band in Murray. He is presently the Ward Chorister in the Cottonwood Heights 5th Ward. 

Don is married to the former Jane Waldrop. They have 4 children; Josh, Amanda, Nick, and Katie. Nick is in the bass section for Messiah 2006.

 

 

 

SHANNON WARNER, Soprano

This is Shannon Warner’s first performance singing the Messiah with the Cottonwood Heights Area Choir. She feels very strongly that the Messiah is an inspired work of God. Shannon graduated from Ricks College in music performance and attended the University of Utah in music education. Ultimately, she decided to make her career as a legal assistant for a firm in Murray, Utah. While at Ricks College, Shannon sang with their A Cappella Choir, and this is where she first soloed for a Messiah performance. She can still be seen onstage with various community theaters in the valley. Most recently she played Mabel in Draper City’s The Pirates of Penzance. She is a member of the board of directors, for the non-profit Draper Historic Theatre, and can still be seen onstage and behind the scenes at her favorite theater. As always, Shannon thanks her family and her friends for their support and love, and her grandmother for her inspiration.

 
 
KAREN BARKER, Mezzo-soprano

Karen Barker cherishes her experiences in the Cottonwood Heights Messiah and will always be grateful to Elizabeth Palmer for the opportunity and the encouragement for "regular choir people" to be soloists. Karen's vocal training has mainly taken place while singing in choirs. She has learned from many great conductors through the years, both in church and in school, and presently sings Alto in The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Karen would like to thank her family for being willing participants in the Cottonwood Heights Messiah. Her husband, Dave, and sons, Ammon, Dallin, and Kimball have all been in the choir while her daughter, Jana, has played flute in the orchestra. One more daughter, Kira, will one day be apart of this wonderful experience.

 
 
SHAWNA GOTTFREDSON, Soprano

Soprano Shawna Gottfredson has been a featured soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Grays Symphony, the Utah Symphony, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Canyonlands New Music Ensemble, Nova, and the Utah Chamber Artists. She has also performed in Siena and Lucca, Italy,and recently in Hawaii and New York.

 

Ms. Gottfredson's opera career includes lead and supporting roles in Suor Angelica, Die Zauberflöte, The Impresario, Orpheus in the Underworld, The Telephone, Un ballo in Maschera,and Madama Butterfly .

 

Oratorio work includes performances of Rutter's Requiem, Schubert's Mass in C, Haydn's Creation, Mozart's Requiem, William's Donna nobis pacem and Hodie, Faure's Requiem, Brahms’s Requiem, Verdi's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, and Handel's Messiah.

 
 
AIMEE STEWART, Soprano

Aimee Palmer Stewart has enjoyed soloing with Cottonwood Heights’ production of Handel’s Messiah since 1996. Aimee has also thrice soloed with the Utah Baroque Ensemble, of which she was a member from 2003-2005. Aimee has been a member of choirs such as the Connecticut Master Chorale, the Roanoke Symphony Chorus, and the BYU Women’s Chorus. Ms. Stewart also enjoys conducting choirs; in addition to conducting her Roanoke, VA and Provo, UT ward choirs, she founded the BYU MBA Spouse Association Women’s Choir. Aimee is also a violinist. She was a founding member of the Cantus String Quartet, with whom she played for 8 years, and continues to teach privately. In 2004, while living in Provo, she performed as “Maria” in The Sound of Music. This past summer, Aimee opened Musicals at Richter with the National Anthem in Danbury, CT. This Christmas season, she will be performing “Rejoice, Greatly” from Messiah in her family’s new hometown of Chandler, AZ. Aimee has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from BYU with a minor in Music, and is the mother of three future Messiah soloists: Lizzie, 6; Eli, 4; and Ivy, 1.

 
 
NORMAN WHITE, Tenor

Tenor Norman White was a featured soloist for the Cottonwood Heights
Area Choir's performance of the Messiah in both 1997 and 1998. Although Norm is not a professional singer, he has been performing since he was very young, including various musicals (both during high school and in college), community choirs, solo invitations, and 2 years in Galena Street East, a Sacramento, California - based performing group for high school students. Norm currently lives with his wife and four children in Folsom, California, where he is an attorney for a large corporation. In his spare time, Norm still loves to sing, as well as spend time having fun with his family.
